Last nights @RTEInvestigates was a distressing, harrowing eye-opener for many and we, like so many other welfare organisations and members of the public, hope that the Government ensures swift action is taken against all those treating horses cruelly & neglectfully featured in the investigation.
We were involved in the 2011/2012 case against John Joe Fitzpatrick where he was found guilty on two counts of cruelty to horses. https://www.facebook.com/BurrenAnimalRescue/posts/yesterday-13-9-12-mr-john-joe-fitzpatrick-of-obriensbridge-co-clare-was-found-gu/407639892623562/ Despite contacting a local TD sometime later we got no response to our query about Mr Fitzpatrick's company, Shannonside Foods, remaining on the Department of Agriculture's list of approved horse slaughter premises without a full investigation into the way it operated. We are also aware of other cases that were brought to court involving Mr Fitzpatrick over a number of years which got thrown out/quashed on technicalities.
We hate to think of the thousands of horses that have suffered at the hands of Mr Fitzpatrick and others involved with Shannonside Foods since 2012 ... we hope the powers that be take all the evidence uncovered by Conor & team at RTE Investigates and commence prosectution proceedings with immediate effect against all involved.
