Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to bring riding hats and boots?
We have a large range of pre-used riding helmets and boots available for free loan.
Do I need a back protector?
We do not require beginners to wear a back protector, although we strongly recommend one for advanced off-road rides.
What should I wear?
All riders should wear socks and long pants. Bring a rain-jacket if the weather is uncertain.
Will there be other people in the group?
The only riders in your group will be those you bring with you, and the instructor.
Are treks supervised?
All treks are supervised by a qualified trek leader. We will also provide staff to lead your horse on foot if necessary (charges may apply).
What is your cancellation policy?
Deposits are non-refundable, although we will put it towards a re-scheduled ride if you re-schedule within three months. We do not require you to pay the balance unless you cancel within 48 hours of the start of your ride.
Do you accept cash?
You have the option to pay the balance online, or in cash on arrival.
Is there a local ATM?
There is an ATM in Shanahan’s Centra in Borrisoleigh.
Do you have a weight limit?
Our weight limit is currently 90kg for one rider, 84kg for a second rider, and under 80kg for all others. These limits are subject to change depending on the availability of weight-carrying horses.
Are you open in the winter?
We are open all year round. Please check the weather-forecast in advance of booking as we do not ride out if there is a red or yellow weather warning in place.
What are your opening times?
Our first ride is at 10.00 a.m. Our last ride ends half an hour before sunset and depends on the time of year.
Can children come too?
Yes, aged 4 upwards (age 3 at managements’ discretion). Please be aware that younger children can find the experience of meeting a real live pony overwhelming, but you will not be refunded if they refuse to mount up or want to get off early.
Do you have a senior age limit?
While we do not have a senior age limit, we do not recommend horse-riding for anyone who suffers from osteoporosis or is physically unfit. Older riders should check with their medical practitioners whether horse-riding is advisable.
Is there a shop onsite?
We do not have a shop onsite. Please bring your own bottle of water.
Is there disabled access?
We regret that we do not have the facilities to cater for physically disabled riders.
What is your policy in relation to tips/gratuities?
While we do not expect you to tip us, if you wish to show your appreciation for our services in this way, we are always grateful for your appreciation. Tips are equally divided between the staff who have assisted in your ride.
